Zion in Axioms

Heaven at 30 miles per hour

F-stop f/14   Exposure time 1/15 sec.  ISO speed ISO-100
This was an absolutely amazing day experimenting with the camera. I love to travel and have always had a passion for recording the beauty of our surroundings, but have never focused on just taking pictures for an entire day. I was lucky enough to have my mom in town for a visit and she was loving playing chauffeur for her crazy son running around like a Tasmanian Devil.

I am drawn to water like a moth to a flame. I can spend hours zoning out to sounds of nature along a rolling stream.

I was almost obsessive trying to capture the perfect moment in the waterfall and attempting different ways to freeze and blur the action. The light was dim in that part of the canyon and I neglected to grab my tripod which would have made these shots a lot easier.

Just Because They Are Cool

This truck, and every other old truck on the planet, screamed at me from across the parking lot to take its picture. I always find it such a shame something so lovely is left to waste away to the elements. I love the rust trying to peak through.

F-stop f/4  Exposure time 1/1600 sec. ISO speed ISO-200 Shallow

And just one more shout out to the heavens for giving me a few more seconds of brilliant light before leaving the park for a nice deep shot. Overall I ended up with 449 photos that I will spend countless hours examining. Totally awesome day.

Someone to aspire to - Yannis Behrakis

"I’m one of the few lucky ones who get paid to do their hobby! I find myself helping younger photographers with my experience."
This is the ultimate selfie taken by Yannis Behrakis. How far have you gone to capture to the perfect snap.
Although Yannis Behrakis was born in Athens, Greece, he considers himself a reporter of the world. For over 20 years he has felt a heavy responsibility to put himself in the middle of the story and consequently, much of the time in extreme danger.

He has covered some of the most war-torn regions on the planet in an effort to make everyone responsible for what's happening. He attempts to be invisible and fall into the background to take photographs, but on occasion the action is consuming. He says the best part about his job is the travel and I think he is just about the luckiest guy in news.

"It’s an amazing job we do by telling people what’s going on."

A New Beginning

Before all the fun begins - Good Morning Dixie
This is one of my favorite recent photographs taken on my smartphone. Dixie is peaceful this time of morning and there are fantastic spots all over campus to find beauty. I am looking forward to seeing what I can capture with my new Canon.

I spent last semester writing stories for The Dixie Sun and on a few occasions I was able to volunteer for photographs, but in the moment I found I had forgotten everything about photography. I definitely have a lot to learn this year.
